Sverre Nypan has made a decision on his immediate future amid transfer interest from Arsenal. The highly-rated teenager was in talks to join the Gunners this month, but was also said to be considering offers from the likes of Girona and Aston Villa. Nypan attended Manchester City’s game against Chelsea last weekend raising fears the Premier League champions were preparing their own offer. City, however, are understood not to have any immediate plans to recruit the 18-year-old who has starred for Rosenborg this season.
Despite the intense efforts of several leading clubs, Nypan has decided to spend the remainder of the current season with the Norwegian club, according to The Athletic. Arsenal were said to be ready to put Nypan straight into their first team squad where he would have been mentored by Norway’s national team captain Martin Odegaard. Nypan’s decision to remain at his current club – whose domestic season runs from March until November – represents another setback for Arsenal who have thus far endured a difficult window.
Arteta remains desperate to reinforce his forward line which has been stripped of Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka due to injury. The Premier League title chasers have seen a move for Ollie Watkins rejected this week and are yet to decide whether or not to submit an improved offer. Arsenal are also said to retain interest in Bayern Munich’s Mathy’s Tel who is also wanted by the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United.
‘My opinion is clear,’ Arteta said when asked about the need for Arsenal to sign a forward last week. ‘We lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, so we lack goals, people, and options in the front line. ‘It’s clear that for the period that we have lost them, ideally we need some help, because we were short already and we’re even shorter. The team has still coped with that but we have do what is right for the club.
‘If we can get the right player, that’s what we are actively looking at, but any player – no, we need someone that makes us better and makes an impact on the team. ‘We have very, very short numbers for many, many weeks and they recognise the situation, we all do. That’s why we are trying to do what is right for the club, the team, that’s our intention.”. When asked if Arsenal have identified potential targets, Arteta answered: ‘Yes.’.
