A teenager has been arrested after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted on a river path in a night attack in Ashford, Kent. This afternoon, Kent Police said they had arrested a 17-year-old boy from the Romney Marsh area of the town on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody. The force had received a report of a woman being sexually assaulted on a river pathway between 8.25pm and 9pm yesterday.

Police say they are reviewing CCTV and speaking to potential witnessed. A spokersperson said: "Kent Police is investigating a report that a woman was sexually assaulted on a river pathway near Beaver Road between 8.25pm and 9pm on Friday 24 January 2025. Officers have since been working in the area, reviewing CCTV and speaking to potential witnesses.

"As part of ongoing enquiries, a 17 year old boy from the Romney Marsh area was arrested on suspicion of rape on the evening of Monday 27 January.
