A 15-month old girl tragically lost her life after being brutally slammed against the floor by her babysitter because she wouldn't stop crying, it alleged. Her heartbroken family have honoured little Vivian Jaymes Gardner, describing her as "joy, light, love, and laughter personified.".
Michael Mayor faces three counts of murder in connection with Vivian's death, along with charges of child endangerment and felonious assault. This harrowing incident took place in Piqua, Ohio, on December 5 last year, while Vivian was in Mayor's care when his partner, the regular babysitter, had gone to drop some children at school. Authorities report that during her absence, Mayor attempted to lay the baby down for a nap on the bedroom floor.
Upon returning, the babysitter believed Vivian was asleep, periodically checking on her until she became worried upon realising the child had not woken by 3pm. A desperate attempt to rouse Vivian revealed she was unresponsive. Emergency services rushed her to Dayton Children's Hospital, where doctors discovered a fractured skull at the back of her head, a subdural hematoma, and multiple "complex" injuries indicative of a "massive impact", reports the Mirror US.
A fundraising page set up by relatives states: "Vivi spent two weeks at Dayton Children's Hospital on life support fighting to recover from her injuries. The neurologists that treated her said it was the worst brain injury they had ever seen. She never regained consciousness, and it is with profound sadness that we share that our sweet, beautiful, precious, funny, and magnetic angel was called home by the Lord on December 19, 2024 at 12.28am while being held in her mother's arms and surrounded by her loving family.".
