Ross Kemp has shared a first look at his reunion with co-star Steve McFadden ahead of Grant Mitchell’s return to EastEnders. It was announced earlier this month that the star would be reprising his part for a stint to coincide with the soap’s forthcoming 40th Anniversary celebrations.
Ross, 60, appeared as the Walford hard man on the long-running BBC drama intermittently between 1990 and 2016. At the end of November, pictures showed him driving out of the soap’s studios in a black car, with many fans speculating that he could be staging a huge return.
With a complex history in Albert Square, it’s no surprise that EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw had him at the top of his list to make a comeback. Phil is currently struggling with loneliness, having fallen into a state of despair in recent months and refusing help from ex-wife Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and best pal Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley).
It’s likely that Grant will swoop in at the eleventh hour to save his brother, but the exact circumstances are yet to be revealed. We do know that next week, Phil will attempt to take his own life. Ahead of his new episodes airing, Ross has shared a brilliant snap of him with Steve on the backlot set in Elstree, Hertfordshire.
With a BBC spokesperson promising that his return will be ‘nothing short of explosive’, Ross said: ‘I’m delighted to be returning to EastEnders as the show heads towards its 40th anniversary. ‘EastEnders has always meant so much to me, so to return as the show is about to celebrate such a special anniversary, is an absolute honour.
