An early contender for best coat of Spring 2025? There’s no doubt Erdem’s new collection for British outdoors specialist Barbour is in with a convincing shot. Today, news of Canadian designer Erdem Moralıoğlu’s collection of four coats, which feature peplum waists, tartan hoods, a reversible swing jacket and striking showerproof cape, sent the fashion set — as well as fashionable countryside dwellers — into an understandable frenzy. It is simply a matter of getting hands on the high fashion outwear, now, which starts at £69.95 for the detachable hoods, and goes up to £679 for the runway ready Barbour X Erdem Beauflower Wax Jacket, a spin on the classic Beaufort coat, and complete with a black floral print and sand-shade paneling.
The limited range comes after the brands worked together for Erdem’s Spring Summer ’24 catwalk collection, in which Moralıoğlu created a quilted, Barbour opera coat inspired by the storied Duchess “Debo” of Devonshire and her many wax jackets. The front row gasped when the design took to the runway, under the pillars of the British Museum.
He said at the time: “I was given incredible access to Debo’s archive and collection of couture gowns, alongside photos of her in her gardens in her waxed cotton coat. When the opportunity arose to collaborate with Barbour, I knew I wanted to do something that merged those two worlds.”.
