Barcelona's latest attempt to register Dani Olmo for the remainder of the season has been rejected by the Spanish football federation and LaLiga. Olmo, 26, joined Barca this summer in a £50m move from RB Leipzig amidst the Catalan club's well-documented financial difficulties.

The Spain international was forced to spend the multiple weeks on the sidelines upon arrival due to the club's financial situation preventing further registrations. Barca were eventually able to field both Olmo and team-mate Pau Victor by securing temporary registrations that expired on December 31.

The decision means both players are now free agents, with Olmo having a clause in his contract that he can leave the club without a fee if he goes unregistered. An initial appeal on Monday proved unsuccessful and their latest attempt to re-register Olmo and Victor has also been denied in the latest blow for Hansi Flick's side.

Barcelona have been handed a fresh blow in their attempt to re-register Dani Olmo after their appeal was rejected by the Spanish FA and LaLiga. Olmo is currently unable to represent the club for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign. Fellow Barca star Pau Victor also finds himself in the same position after his temporary registration expired.

A statement from the Spanish FA read: The monitoring committee of the RFEF-La Liga coordination agreement has met to address the request for prior visa and processing of the federation licences of the players Mr Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr Pau Víctor Delgado, issued by FC Barcelona.
