For those planning to get more active in 2025, the UK's stunning coastline could be the perfect destination. With over 1,500 beaches, there's plenty of room for exploration. While gym memberships typically see a surge of over 25% in January, opting for a brisk beach walk could be a more appealing option for the outdoorsy types.

If you're considering making the most of the UK's coastline, new research has unveiled the top English beaches for a walking trip. The outdoor specialists at GO Outdoors have rated and ranked England’s best winter beach walks, taking into account factors such as average rainfall, temperature, daylight hours, and popularity.

Topping the list was Bamburgh Beach in Northumberland, with visitors to the beach stating is has “incredible views and beautiful sand, it's a fantastic place to go for a walk.”. Located on the northeastern coast, this sandy beach offers views of the Farne Islands, known for its puffins, seals, and other wildlife. Despite its chilly average temperature of 5.5 degrees, it's still a fantastic destination—just remember to wrap up warm.

Hot on the heels of Bamburgh Beach is Dorset's Durdle Door, which becomes a prime spot for fossil hunting during the winter months. Robin Hood's Bay and Beach in Whitby took third place, touted as an ideal location for a winter stroll, with the beach's structure providing shelter from the rain.

Sharing the study's findings, Calum Jones, blog author and outdoor enthusiast at GO Outdoors, said: "Although the cold weather may cause people to stay inside, there is no better time to explore the UK than the winter months. As crowds disperse, visitors to beaches often find themselves with miles of coastline to themselves.
