Bamburgh, the picture-perfect coastal village in Northumberland, has once again been crowned the UK’s best seaside town. For the fourth year in a row, this charming spot has topped the charts in a survey by Which? , voted for by the public. The town’s stunning beach, with golden sands and crystal-clear waters, earned it full five-star ratings from Which? survey respondents, who were particularly taken by the unspoiled nature of the coastline.
Bamburgh Castle, up high on a rocky outcrop, also added to the landscape impressing visitors. Many praised the village as a place to get away for a quiet stay, the Independent reports. Which? survey, which gathered feedback from over 4,700 travellers, assessed a range of factors including the quality of the beach, seafront, attractions, food and drink offerings, and overall value for money. Bamburgh scored an impressive 86%, with particularly high marks for its natural beauty and calm atmosphere.
The only downside? Shopping. As a village with a population of just 400, Bamburgh offers limited retail options, consisting mainly of a butcher’s shop and a post office. But for many, this only adds to the charm of the place - it’s a place where you don’t need to turn to retail therapy.
Close behind Bamburgh in the rankings was Portmeirion, the village in Gwynedd, which scored 83%. This stunning location, famous for its Mediterranean-inspired architecture and lush sub-tropical gardens, also received rave reviews for its seafront, scenery, and peaceful vibe. However, its shopping received a lower score, reflecting the fact that, like Bamburgh, the focus is more on natural beauty than on bustling shopping streets.
