A Big Brother star left her job due to depression before stepping into the world of reality TV. Hanah Haji, a contestant on the most recent series that aired from October to November last year, has shared the challenges she faced leading up to her appearance on the popular ITV show.

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Hannah shared: "I got so bored one time, I got bored and I was like, 'I want to apply for Big Brother because I think I had depression whilst working. My GP even said that I was dealing with work stress and depression. So I was like, I need something a bit different.'".

Reflecting on her journey, Hannah added: "I did go from working as an HR consultant for two and a half years, to then going into Big Brother. However, there was that middle ground where it was like, 'either I'm going back to do my master's in social work or I just postpone that for a year and then after that go on into Big Brother,' and it's like once in a lifetime opportunity.

"So I just went ahead and was like, 'let me just message my university right now,' because the week I was going into hiding was the week I was actually meant to start my first lecture at university. So I left my corporate job to go and do my master's and then after I got the final call from Big Brother saying 'we want you.'".

Hanah threatened to quit the show during her stint. After becoming infuriated at producers trickling basic rations into the house, Hanah took to the diary room where she said to Big Brother: "Hello. I want to leave tonight. I do not tolerate being treated like this. I don’t treat myself like this so nor would I ever allow someone else to treat me like this.”.
