Boyzone star Shane Lynch has opened up for the first time about how he broke five years of no contact with bandmate Mikey Graham. The Dublin-born singer, 48, had a bitter fall out with Mikey, 52, after the band's last performance. During the last number of years the band were still together, tensions reached an all-time high between Shane and Mikey which ended in them falling out. However, Shane has now detailed the moment he reached out with an olive branch to his former bandmate. Speaking on Lorraine, he said: "Believe it or not, I hadn't spoken to Mikey for quite a few years and then when I saw the documentary - the first draft of it - I couldn't help myself but to call him.
"I just told him that he did amazingly and to be honest, he made the documentary for me. I was delighted for him to tell his story and for all the honesty from him it was just incredible and impeccable. It was a very difficult thing for him to do - to actually come and join us on the documentary because we were very unsure if that was going to happen. "To have the completion of all of us was fabulous and he did an amazing job. I'm very proud of him actually," Shane gushed as he spoke about the end of his feud with Mikey.
It comes as three members of Boyzone reunited on Monday night for the first time in almost a decade - but Mikey was nowhere to be seen. As documentary Boyzone: No Matter What comes to Sky, Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, and Shane stepped out as a group once again as their "harrowing, emotional" trip down memory lane premiered in London. However, Mikey was absent from the red carpet, though. While Ronan, Shane, and Keith were all smiles on the red carpet at London's Camden Town The Roundhouse, Mickey chose to miss out on the premiere - and BoyZone fans have been left saddened by his decision.
The eye-opening documentary series shows never-before-seen footage of manager Louis Walsh speaking about how he created one of the biggest boybands in the world, before tensions rose and his toxic ways came to light. It also delves into the aftermath of the tragic death of Stephen Gately and how his passing left a lasting impact on the rest of the band. While Mikey features in the documentary series, he chose not to attend the premiere in London after previously opening up about his love for his 'quiet life' in rural Ireland after shunning the fame that followed him for decades.
Mikey, 49, who has often been referred to as 'The Quiet One' during his time in Boyzone previously revealed he hasn't spoke to his former bandmates since their final show which took place over five years ago. In the documentary series, Mikey insisted that if given the chance to go back to Boyzone or reunite with Ronan, Shane, and Keith, he doesn't wish to ever go back. In the Sky series, Mikey speaks about his decision to walk away from the glitz and the glamour of being in the band. According to the former boyband star, tensions began to flare up within the group after Ronan and Mikey became increasingly irritated by the party lifestyle of Shane and Keith after the passing of Stephen.
Tension came to a head on their final tour as the boys became embroiled in arguments on the regular - the worst of which took place between Keith and Mikey in their dressing room. While both Keith and Mickey chose not to share the details of the fight in the docuseries, Mikey did say: "I just wanted to get out and get away from that toxic environment.". Ronan had also previously explained he hadn't spoken to Mikey in years, with Mikey himself admitting he didn't want to 'waste my future looking back at my past.' He confessed: "I haven't seen anybody since that night [last show]. I wish them all the best, no grudges, no animosity, nothing, however I don't want to go back to how I felt for many years.
"To see them, if it were for too long, would remind me of that and my future is far too important for me to waste it looking back at my past.". *Boyzone: No Matter What comes to Sky Documentaries and NOW on Sunday, February 2.
