Harry Maguire was involved a furious brawl with Arsenal stars after conceding a penalty for Manchester United. The Red Devils defender was controversially penalised after bringing down Kai Havertz. The decision was upheld amid the absence of VAR. But Maguire was left furious at the decision and let his feelings be known to the referee Andy Madley. That only served to anger the opposition, as a furious brawl with the Arsenal players ensued. A host of stars piled in as tempers flared, with Manuel Ugarte and Havertz being left on the floor.
In the end, the anger simmered down and Maguire was booked for his part in the brawl. United were eventually left off the hook as Altay Bayindir saved Martin Odegaard's spot-kick. THE FA CUP GIANT KILLERS: Get your special edition magazine celebrating some of the game's greatest-ever upsets.
Ex-Newcastle star Alan Shearer was full of praise for Bayindir and his save but believed that the penalty should not have been given in the first place. Speaking on BBC Sport, he said: "Altay Bayindir gets down really, really quickly. He gets a good strong hand to it. I thought the penalty was a bit harsh, I really did.".
Odegaard's miss left the scores at 1-1 after goals from Bruno Fernandes and Gabriel Magalhaes. Maguire's fury was not the only incident during the game. United defender Diogo Dalot was sent off after two bookable offences - the second for a mistimed challenge on Mikel Merino.
Declan Rice had an excellent chance to win the game but he was also denied by Bayindir. And Shearer remained impressed. He added: "Declan Rice should score, it's a complete free header. Wonderful save. It should be in the back of the net. Big, big opportunity. He should guide that across him and put more power behind it.".
