Since Brooke Shields revealed she was a victim of a surgery akin to the 'husband stitch' - a vaginal tuck to tighten the area - she has admitted that there has been 'one good thing' to come after a doctor shockingly performed the deeply invasive medical procedure without her consent.
The 59-year-old American actress attracted shock and sympathy when she revealed that a doctor performed cosmetic surgery on her vaginal area while she was unconscious for another procedure - without asking or seeking her agreement. She has now said that she can take a positive from the vile surgery.
Speaking to The Guardian, Brooke has said: "One good thing that came out of it was that it made me feel more at one with women. When I was in the hospital with a broken femur, this brilliant surgeon saw me and said, ‘Oh, dear God. Famous people get the worst treatment.'".
Brooked continued to reveal that the the surgeon said: "Doctors either want to show off or they want to prove to you they don’t care who you are.’ And neither of those are healthy or productive." After what happened to Brooke, she said that it made her "more unified with women," and that "stuff like this is happening all the time".
This type of surgery has been dubbed the 'husband stitch' and involves an extra stitch during vaginal repair following childbirth, an outdated practice performed to give extra pleasure to the husband. While the extra stitch has been claimed to tighten the vagina and increase sexual pleasure for a male partner, it has often been considered medically unnecessary, unethical, and can cause discomfort or pain.
