The brother of a seriously-injured jockey has condemned updates which have been posted about his condition - slamming some of them as "fake news". Blake Spriggs, 32, was airlifted to hospital in Canberra in a critical condition after the horse he was riding clipped the heels of another while negotiating the bend into the home turn during a race at Moruya on January 17.

Another rider Beany Panya, 31, also came down, suffering a head injury and thoracic spine fracture for which she underwent surgery. But more concern has been for the health of Spriggs who has ridden 654 winners during his 10-year career. He was intubated because of chest and abdominal injuries and also sustained fractures to his ribs, clavicle and arm. He was also found to have a blood infection.

His family, including his partner and reality TV star KC Osborne, have been constantly at Spriggs’ bedside, providing regular bulletins through their social media. Yet so have other outlets. In the latest post Dustin Spriggs wrote: “An update on Blake as there has been a lot of fake news getting around.

“He is still on top of all his injuries from the fall. Many fractures in his ribs. Major collarbone and arm fracture. Surgery on those were successful. Punctured lungs are still the focus but all the bleeding from them has eased. “My sister Dimitee, her fiancé Rory, Blake’s fiancé Kasey and I have been by Blake’s side from 7am to 11pm daily.”.
