Monster Hunter Wilds and Onimusha: Way Of The Sword will be shown in two separate Capcom presentations next week, as fans hope for Resident Evil 9 news. Ahead of the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds in late February, Capcom has announced two showcase presentations for next Tuesday. First off, a 20-minute Capcom showcase will take place on February 4, 2025, which will feature updates on the recently announced Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, Street Fighter 6 DLC, Capcom Fighting Collection 2, and Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (likely because of the belated Xbox One version).

This will be followed by a 15-minute presentation for Monster Hunter Wilds, led by producer Ryozo Tsujimoto. He will introduce a new trailer for the game and information on the second open beta, which kicks off on Friday, February 7 in the UK. Despite talk of multiple titles, the main draw for the initial showcase is Onimusha. This reboot of the samurai action game was announced last year at The Game Awards, and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2026.

The series’ last mainline entry was 2006’s Onimusha: Dawn Of Dreams on the PlayStation 2, although a remaster of the first game came out in 2018. Capcom is also developing a VR entry entitled Onimusha VR: Shadow Team, so Capcom is certainly pushing for a franchise comeback. While it seems unlikely, considering it isn’t mentioned, some fans are also hoping for news on the future of Resident Evil during the presentation. Resident Evil 9 is currently in development, while there’s rumours that remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code: Veronica are also in the works.

Considering Monster Hunter Wilds is likely Capcom’s main priority right now (Monster Hunter: World is the biggest-selling game in the company’s history) there’s little chance any news about Resident Evil will arrive until after Wilds launches on February 28, 2025.

If the series makes a no-show at this event however, it could crop up at a future State Of Play presentation. Resident Evil Village was announced during a reveal event for the PlayStation 5 back in 2020, so it’s possible the sequel could also debut at a Sony showcase. Notable insider NateTheHate, who was correct around the Switch 2 reveal date, previously claimed a State Of Play is planned for February at some point, although he gave no specific date.

Sony has traditionally held a State Of Play event within the first three months of the year. Last year, one aired on January 31, while 2023 and 2022 saw presentations in February and March, respectively, so it’s likely another will happen this year around the same time.
