As the great and good assembled on Monday under the Capitol Rotunda for the swearing-in ceremony – a state occasion demanding class, reverence, dignity – in strutted Lauren with her bra peeking out from a much-too-tight white pantsuit. Yes, as always, the high-spending flashy fiancée of billionaire Amazon boss Jeff Bezos managed to look the cheapest in the room – even one that included meat-head UFC fighter Conor McGregor.
Dear oh dear, while Melania and Ivanka Trump were visions of elegance in tasteful tailoring befitting the event – and outdoor temperatures – the 55-year-old former news anchor looked more like a small-town hair salon owner ready to hit the Las Vegas strip.
The look was apparently Alexander McQueen, but the overall vibe was more Target. Perhaps the prospect of competing with the coterie of assembled glamazons from the Trump scion was behind the dress-code diss. For by defaulting to her usual sartorial setting of maxed-out vamp, Sanchez circumvented the fashion fear that something more understated would be overshadowed.
With a face shinier than the Capitol's guilt chandeliers, and a pumped pout pursed throughout, it seemed clear to me that the sometime helicopter pilot wanted to be watched. Surely, she knew the headlines that would ensue, the scurrying to social media to gawk at her front-loaded look?.
