It was a good night for Premier League clubs in the Champions League as they all avoided an early exit from Europe. Liverpool knew their fate was secure going into their match with PSV Eindhoven but couldn't make it a perfect eight wins from eight, falling to a 3-2 loss. Arsenal endured a scare, too, after falling behind in Girona, only to roar back and win.
Manchester City headed into the final matchday of the first phase knowing that defeat would send them OUT. And it looked as though the unthinkable would happen when they went in 1-0 down at the break. But they hit back early in the second half to book a place in the play-offs.
Aston Villa raced into a two goal lead against Celtic courtesy of an early brace from Morgan Rogers, only for the visitors to go in at the break level. But Villa rallied - with Rogers clinching a hat-trick - to join Arsenal, Liverpool and five others in the Round of 16.
