Chilling audio has revealed a pilot's desperate last five words before the plane he was in crashed into a building during a training flight. Harrowing video captured the moment the plane smashed into a building close to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Tuesday. Audio from the incident heard the pilot telling the control tower: "We're out of control here.".
The clip showed the plane flying low over a motorway before it vanished out of view and then exploded into a ball of flames. There were two people inside the plane at the time of the crash, according to reports. Audio from the incident heard control tower operatives trying to guide the pilot, commenting: "OK Kamaka 689, if you can land, if you can level it off, that's fine. Any runway, any place you can do." The plane then crashed into an empty, state-owned building that had been earmarked for demolition. Honolulu Fire Department Chief Sheldon Hao said it was the "best-case scenario" given the circumstances.
Officials also praised the pilot for avoiding populated areas. Hawaii Department of Transportation Ed Sniffen said: "This could have been much, much worse, but the situation was limited to the two that were flying the plane… from what we understand the pilot made a lot of adjustments to minimize what they hit.
Neither of the people in board have been officially identified but sources close to the family told Hawaii News Now that one of the victims was Hiram Defries, a pilot in training. Hawaii Democratic Governor Josh Green said in a statement on the crash: "Jamie's and my hearts go out to the pilot and passenger and their families as well as to all who have experienced this traumatic event.
