The 47-year-old Coldplay frontman is known for his generosity, passionate activism and, of course, his impressive musical capabilities. On Saturday night, he combined all three and while performing in Mumbai, took it upon himself to make a major statement, thanking India for forgiving Britain for all the ‘bad things’ the nation had done.

Taking to the stage in a bright blue T-shirt, he graciously told the crowd that the nine-time Brit award-winning band couldn’t have asked for a better audience to perform to. ‘Thank you for coming,’ he said. ‘It’s amazing to us that you welcome us even though we are from Great Britain.’.

While many musicians would leave it there afraid of making a political statement, Chris didn’t shy away from the brutal history of the two countries after Britain colonised India in 1858. ‘Thank you for forgiving us for all of the bad things Great Britain has done and welcoming us into your home.’.

‘This is our fourth visit to India, and the second time to play. First time we played a long show and we could not have asked for a better audience. Thank you for coming today everybody!’ he continued. Coldplay last played in India in 2016 when they performed at the Global Citizen Festival.
