Since the devastating Lockerbie bombing, which remains the deadliest terror attack and air disaster in UK history, Jim has been tirelessly working to uncover the truth about the tragic loss of his daughter. On a routine flight from Frankfurt to Detroit, the aircraft was destroyed by an explosion over Lockerbie, claiming the lives of 259 passengers and crew members. The falling wreckage also claimed the lives of 11 residents of Lockerbie, the small Scottish town below.
The catastrophe occurred on December 21, 1988, and since that day, Dr Jim has been the voice for the families of the UK victims, relentlessly seeking truth and justice. Having watched the series, Dr Jim singled out Colin Firth's performance for special praise, reports the Daily Record. He said: "It may seem something very simple when taking into account all the glorious huge life scale sets and so on.
"The thing that really struck me was a close up at one point of Colin's face, and the little muscles in his face were doing exactly what I knew my little muscles would have been doing if I had been asked that question.". "That really brought home to me how involved Colin had become in what he was being asked to portray. That was an extremely telling moment, just for me.".
Jim also recounted the emotional experience of visiting the set, where the recreation of Camp Zeist evoked powerful memories of the actual trial. "The recreation of Camp Zeist was amazing," he remarked. "Primarily because of its scale, it was such a huge thing. There was a big section of the studio which was given over to being a carpentry shop where they were manufacturing part of the build - it was very interesting to see all of that.".
