ITV's flagship programme Good Morning Britain has come under fire. As Christmas is just around the corner, bringing a host of special TV episodes, new research has unveiled the most complained about TV moments of 2024 so far, with Good Morning Britain’s 5th of August episode taking the top spot. The study by online casino review site BetPokies analysed Ofcom's weekly complaint rates for every week of 2024 to determine which programmes received the most overall complaints and on what date.

Here are the most complained about moments of 2024 so far – with the ITV breakfast show topping the charts. It discovered that Good Morning Britain’s 5th of August show garnered a whopping 16,783 complaints, the highest for any show by a significant margin. This episode sparked complaints over two interviews, one with Independent MP Zarah Sultana and the other with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper.

There were accusations of a conflict of interest after GMB presenter Ed Balls interviewed his wife Yvette Cooper. Fans also criticised how the presenter and co-host Kate Garraway questioned Zara Sultana. However, ITV said they considered their interviews to be "balanced, fair and duly impartial".

An Ofcom spokesperson said at the time: "We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate." Both interviews were related to the huge wave racist riots that broke out in many parts of the UK during the summer.

The second most complained-about episode was Love Island's 24th of July instalment, which drew 1,831 complaints following a heated argument during a challenge where contestants had to predict the outcome of a viewer vote asking which couple were only together to win.
