Brits are mad about their roast potatoes during the winter season, with these soft, crispy delights being an essential part of a Sunday dinner. Yet, it turns out, a lot of us might not be tapping into the full potential of our beloved roasties. Despite many home cooks priding themselves on their culinary prowess, it seems a great many have been messing up their spuds for quite some time.

Enter TikTok star chef Kelly Scott, better known as @kellyscleankitchen on the app, who has busted a common myth regarding the creation of the ultimate roastie. The expert argues that frying isn't the golden ticket to achieving that "super crispy" finish; she advocates an easy technique for impeccable potatoes every single time.

Chef Kelly shared her wisdom: "These are burnished potatoes, a rosemary and garlic British potato. That's the crispiest russet potato ever, and the key is to first boil them in water for three to five minutes before roasting them. This isn't to like cook them or anything, but it removes the excess starch, because white potatoes are super starchy, which can lead to a soggy and gummy potato, which is why you boil them first.".

She concluded by saying: "It removes all the surface starch, and allows them to get super crispy in the oven." Before you start frying those potatoes, it's wise to give them a good boil first, reports the Express. Stick to your tried-and-tested roasting tricks if you like, but usually, they'll need somewhere between 20 to 35 minutes in the oven to get that perfect level of crispiness.
