A man has been charged following a horror mass stabbing in Croydon that saw five people knifed in a frenzied attack and rushed to hospital. Babah Sesay, aged 30, of Rodney Estate, Orb Street, SE17 has been charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, the Metropolitan Police said. He appeared at Croydon Magistrates Court and has been remanded in custody, and is due to appear at Croydon Crown Court on Tuesday, February 25.

Emergency services rushed to the scene outside a Sainsbury's warehouse on Marlowe Way, Beddington, at around 11:05am on Thursday, January 23. The victims were left needing medical treatment, while the area was placed under lockdown as officers carried out their enquiries. Later that day, the Met Police confirmed that a male suspect had been arrested. Images from the scene show emergency service crews outside a Sainsbury's Argos distribution centre, accompanied by a row of at least four fire engines. A 54-year-old man was rushed to hospital with injuries that were determined to be non-life-threatening.

In a statement released shortly after the attack on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police said: "At 10:15hrs on Thursday, 23 January, officers responded to reports of a stabbing at a commercial address on Marlowe Way, Beddington. Officers are on scene with the London Ambulance Service to treat four injured people. A 54-year-old man was taken to hospital where his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. One man has been arrested.".

The London Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 10.21am this morning (Thursday January 23) to reports of a stabbing incident in Marlowe Way, Croydon. We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, members of our Tactical Response Unit and London's Air Ambulance. Our crews treated five patients at the scene, before taking one to a London major trauma centre and four to other hospitals.".
