James Jordan has revealed what he thinks about the contestants and judges' scores on Dancing on Ice so far. The former Strictly Come Dancing star knows all too well about the show, having won it with Alexandra Schauman back in 2019. Following their victory, the 46-year-old was also rumoured to land a role as a judge on the show after John Barrowman's exit, however, it was Oti Mabuse who stepped into his shoes.
Sharing his thoughts on the contestants, James revealed he is particularly impressed with this year's oldest contestant Michaela Strachan, 58, so far. He shared: “Michaela is the front runner. With Sam [Aston] and Molly [Lanaghan] – as much as I love them – you can’t compare the quality of dancing and skating ability, compared to what Michaela has. That’s the public’s job.". James went on to say that if he was one of the judges, he would have increased the scores for Sam and Michaela.
On the judges Oti, Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean's scores, he added, in association with Sky Vegas: "There’s a discrepancy in what I’ve seen, as a pro and someone who has done the show. "The level of ability of Michaela exceeds. It [Sam’s skating] was fun and his skating was actually really good – he looks quite natural. He is a front runner, and the public are going to love him, but it lacked the quality that Michaela had.”.
Last week, many viewers claimed that The Traitors star Molly was undermarked with a 30 score for her Beauty and the Beast themed dance. James however doesn't believe this is the case. “She needs to keep doing what she’s doing because at the moment, they [the judges] are definitely not overmarking her," he added. "She’s going out there and producing beautiful routines. Her skating looks good and she’s able to skate on her own – she’s got bags of potential. She’s just scratching the surface – she's a little rushed at times but she’s doing a fantastic job.".
James went on to say that Mollie and Michaela are his "two favourites so far" and would "love" to see one of them win. “This is the first year at this stage where I thought that two of the standout people are both females, which is amazing," he added. "I would love to see a female winner and I didn’t realise it’s been 12 years since a female has won.". Last weekend, Fern McCann became the latest celebrity to leave the competition after receiving the lowest votes.
