With the iconic soap coming up to its milestone anniversary, fans of Eastenders are certain that the BBC series will be given a major update for the birthday celebrations. In celebration of reaching 40 years on screen, the BBC released a compilation video of all the soap's theme tunes over the years. Available on YouTube, lifelong fans of the show are now ecstatic as they believe the video to be a clue to a new change on the show - an update of theme tune.

Posting to the EastEnders page, the soap captioned the video: "Let's watch back all of the classic theme tunes and credits from EastEnders over the years!" With fans certain that a new version of the famous opening will air during the 40th special, many took to the comments to share their excitement. One viewer wrote: "A new version for the 40th looms." While another was hoping "there will be a new version! Something with violins again.".

A third guessed that there will be a "new opening on the 40th anniversary?" While another said: "New one soon?!?!?!?!". Another exciting update of the soap includes a EastEnders confirmed decision that fans will be able to make two interactive decisions during the show's anniversary episode on the 19th February. Viewers have been presented the option to vote for the next step of Denise Fox's love life.

Fans will be given the chance to pave the next course of Denise's romantic life: making a decision between characters Ravi or Jack. However, this is not the only decision they'll be able to make. Though specific details have been hidden from the public, we know that the final decision of this vote will have a major impact on life in Walford. A live episode will follow on the 20th February at 7:30pm, revealing what this will mean for the square's inhabitants.

The BBC will also air a documentary in celebration of the soap's four decades on screens. EastEnders: 40 Years on the Square will be fronted by Ross Kemp and will take viewers on a journey reflecting on the soap's biggest moments and most impactful plots through the years. On BBC Three, a 45-minute interview special called EastEnders Revealed: The Lock In will star Joe Swash who will talk with some of the key cast of the anticipated episode to uncover behind-the-scenes gossip of the upcoming scandals and fallout to come.

Never one to hold back, Eastenders is also set to identify Cindy’s Christmas Day attacker during the week of the show's anniversary - 40 years meaning a lifetime of drama packed into one week for the BBC's show's fans. Boxpark are also holding a Live Eastenders watch-party across their London locations with tickets under £10 including a drink. The 40th anniversary is receiving well-deserved love from its fans coming together to enjoy the experience together, the event even encouraging people to come dressed-up as their favourite characters!.
