It's hard to remember a time where Erling Haaland hasn't been of interest to Europe's elite. It feels like pretty much ever since Haaland joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022, the likes of Real Madrid have been circling. But the striker will not be going anywhere anytime soon after penning a monster contract until the summer of 2034.

The Norway international's remarkable new nine-and-a-half-year deal, which is understood to be worth a whopping £500,000-a-week, means City have also exterminated any old release clauses which may have aided Haaland's slew of suitors in prising him away from the Premier League champions.

So that's that: Haaland is a Manchester City player and will be for quite some time, much to the disappointment of probably just about every other top club in Europe. Haaland has never been far away from transfer speculation given his remarkable goalscoring exploits. He has plundered 111 goals in just 126 games for City, helping them to domestic titles, cups and Champions League glory for the first time.

He had an equally impressive record at Borussia Dortmund, where he established himself as one of Europe's most deadly strikers during his two-and-a-half years in Germany. Haaland notched 86 goals in 89 games for the Bundesliga outfit. Inevitably, that fuelled talk of a transfer, which as Sebastian Kehl, the club's sporting director, points out, was not always particularly helpful.
