Erling Haaland's three key reasons for rejecting Real Madrid and signing new Man City deal

Erling Haaland's relationship with the powerbrokers at Manchester City played a key role in his decision to sign a new contract with the Premier League champions. It was confirmed on Friday morning that Haaland had penned a lucrative nine-and-a-half year contract - thought to be worth £500,000-a-week - to put an end to any suggestion he could be lured to Real Madrid.
The Norway striker, 24, has been imperious for City since moving to The Etihad back in the summer of 2022. And despite talk of a move elsewhere, fuelled by speculation over a release clause in his previous contract, Haaland will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
As outlined by The Athletic, a number of factors went into Haaland's decision, including his 'excellent relationships' with his team-mates, Pep Guardiola and his coaching, plus key members of the club's hierarchy, including chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
Furthermore, the former Borussia Dortmund man is known to be settled in Manchester and is 'extremely happy' to be representing City like his father, Alf-Inge, did. Haaland has already become accustomed to winning trophies at City, although it seems highly unlikely that Guardiola's men will win a fifth consecutive Premier League title this term given they are currently 12 points worse off than Liverpool, who have also played a game less than City.
But Haaland is confident that move silverware is on the cards after tying himself to the club until the summer of 2034. Speaking after confirmation of his new deal, the striker said: "I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great Club.
