It was a strong night for British clubs in this year’s new-look Europa League, as Manchester United, Tottenham and Rangers all safely secured progression into the round of 16. A pair of second-half goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo saw the unbeaten Red Devils overcome Romanian minnows FCSB, while academy graduates Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore hit the target for Spurs against Elfsborg.

Meanwhile, Rangers came out on top in front of a bouncing Ibrox crowd to seal a top-eight finish on goal difference, with Nicolas Raskin and Vaclav Cerny netting in a 2-1 win over Union SG. The British trio, plus Athletic Bilbao, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Lyon and Europa Conference League champions Olympiakos, must wait until the round of 16 draw on February 21 to find out their next opponents. But those sides that finished between ninth and 24th discovered their fate at this afternoon’s knockout phase play-off draw, held at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
