Former ABC star Karina Cavarlho is set to share the Channel Seven Melbourne weekend news desk with Mike Amor from Saturday. The 44-year-old news veteran comes to the high profile gig after filling in for Peter Mitchell on the weekday news over the summer.

Karina made headlines in 2023 when she made a dramatic exit from the ABC after working at the national broadcaster for a whopping 17 years. 'You know you love your job when you have to work when everyone else is on holidays and you don't mind it,' she joked to the Herald Sun after Seven announced her new role on Friday.

The Sri Lankan-born beauty, who started at Seven in July, has been in Mitchell's chair on weekdays for the last five weeks. 'The whole team that was on over summer was really fun,' she gushed in her interview with the publication. 'I probably shouldn't mention the ABC but it's been so funny talking to some of my friends from there, because you don't actually realise that there's life after the ABC,' she joked. She also shared that she has been enjoying the jaunts to prized sporting events like the Test cricket and the Australian Open over the summer holiday period.
