Gavin and Stacey fans in bits as A Fond Farewell ends on ‘brilliantly cruel’ twist

Gavin and Stacey fans were beside themselves after James Corden and Ruth Jones decided to end A Fond Farewell on a major Easter Egg. BBC viewers hailed the comedy writing duo for seizing the opportunity to ‘do the funniest thing ever’ by teasing the mysterious fishing trip.
For those living under a rock, Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) and his nephew Jason’s (Robert Wilfort) relationship was ruined for years after events – which have never been revealed – on their nautical excursion. Fans had been hoping they would find out what happened on the last ever episode on Christmas Day and while Dave Coaches (Steffan Rhodri) got close to spilling the beans, we were all still left in the dark.
On New Year’s Day, though, viewers were convinced finally all would be revealed when A Fond Farewell ended on previously unseen home footage of Jason and Uncle Bryn’s fishing trip. But in true Gavin and Stacey style, the home video abruptly cut before anything juicy was divulged in a move described as ‘pure class’ by viewers on X.
