West Ham have considered a loan move for Marcus Rashford despite Manchester United looking to move the wantaway striker on a permanent deal. New head coach Graham Potter is down to the bare bones up front because of injuries to Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio and club captain Jarrod Bowen.
That leaves only veteran Danny Ings as the squad's experienced No9 with winger Mohamed Kudus in line to start up top against Fulham in Potter's first home game in charge on Tuesday night. The Hammers have also been linked with a deal for Brighton youngster Evan Ferguson, whom Potter gave a debut to when he was in charge of the Seagulls.
Asked about whether the Hammers must add a new striker in the January transfer window, Potter said: "I wouldn't say its imperative. The situation with Nic, there's certainly a logical rationale to do something but it's not quite as simple as that. "I wouldn't want to make the wrong decision or do something for the sake of it. This window is very complicated. We have options and there are players coming back.".
Potter was also asked about Ferguson, who is available for loan and not presently in the plans of their current boss Fabian Hurzeler, but said he would not discuss any indivudal players not at the club. "He's a player that's not a West Ham player." Potter said. "Until he is I won't speak about anybody. We have enough good players here.".
Rashford is set to leave Old Trafford this month having said before Christmas that he was keen to find a new challenge. He was again left out of the squad for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie away to Arsenal, which United won in a penalty shootout, and when asked if Rashford had played his final game for the club head coach Ruben Amorim said: "I don't know. We will see.".
