Emmerdale’s Beth Cordingly has shared a message to fans following some emotional episodes of the ITV soap. Last week, Beth’s character Ruby Fox-Miligan discovered partner Caleb Miligan (William Ash) is not the father of her daughter Steph (Georgia Jay).
To her horror, Ruby realised it meant her father Anthony (Nicholas Day) is, after the evil man sexually abused her when she was a child. Thursday and Friday’s instalments of the show saw Ruby’s traumatic secret exposed to Caleb and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter). The character, who arrived in the village at the start of last year, also confronted her father – but he initially denied the abuse and claimed he simply had a close relationship with Ruby when she was younger.
After Caleb and Chas realised Anthony is Steph’s dad, Ruby sat down with her husband and slowly opened up about her ordeal. It was an incredibly powerful moment, one that saw Beth praised by fans for her performance. Following these scenes, Beth took to Instagram to thank audience members for their messages.
She wrote in the caption alongside: ‘Thank you to everyone for your amazing messages. Working on this storyline is an enormous privilege and we all really care about it. ‘The cast, crew, producers, writers. It’s been one of the great privileges of my life (truly) to say these words on behalf of RUBY’s everywhere…and all that we hoped for as a team on @emmerdale is that we could – in some small way – make you feel respected and heard.
