Heung-min Son believes Tottenham are halfway through a defining 11 days in their season - and it is so far so good. Spurs skipper Son says the four games from their win against Elfsborg last week through to the FA Cup fourth round trip to Aston Villa next Sunday will go a long way to determining whether the campaign can go down as a success or not. Ange Postecoglou’s team earned a first Premier League win in seven weeks away to Brentford yesterday and they bring a one-goal lead to Anfield for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool on Thursday.
And Son said: “Looking back from the Europa League game, I think this may be the biggest ten days for this team this season. “We’ve played well past two games and I always say how I approach every game every season like a final. This cup game is so important, as it is just one step away from a final. “We need to be well prepared, and hopefully we can bring back a positive result so we can head to Wembley. As a team, we need to prepare well for this game so we can be in that situation.”.
The 2-0 win against Thomas Frank’s Bees also marked a first clean sheet since they defeated Southampton in mid-December and it came thanks to some big performances from youngsters Archie Gray and Djed Spence. “It was most important to break that losing streak and get that win,” Son said. “It helps build our confidence and find our rhythm. “I think we need to praise how all the players played well in a stable defensive structure as well when needed. I say again how important it is to get the confidence back in the squad and have a calmer atmosphere in the team.
“We can say it is a difficult and challenging time for us, and a win helps us keep the team united. I think the players need to be praised for the sacrifices they made and the hard work they put in.”. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
