Horrifying CCTV footage has captured the moment a man was brutally stabbed in the neck after accidentally bumping into a stranger at a subway station. Footage of the shocking incident circulated online after the attack at the Guillotière metro station in Lyon, France, on Sunday, as police launched a manhunt for the knifeman. The attacker is seen in the CCTV video getting off a train and leaving the platform, making his way toward the stairs.
But as he reaches the bottom of the stairs, another man walking toward the train at the platform bumps into him, catching his shoulder. The attacker is then seen turning around, staring after the man who just bumped into him before running down the platform after him and plunging a knife into his neck. He then casually walks away and returns his journey while the victim grabs his neck in shock. The victim is seen looking around in confusion at the incident, appearing unaware he has just been stabbed. The attacker fled the scene immediately, with police launching a huge manhunt in a bid to track him down.
The victim, meanwhile, was treated at the scene by emergency services and rushed to hospital. A source told Frontières it was a "miracle" the man survived the attack, taking only five days off work to recover. It is not known how severe his injuries were. The alleged knifeman was arrested on Wednesday night at his home in the Venissieux neighbourhood after a relative of the attacker is said to have reported him to police, having recognised him fromt he viral footage. The arrest was announced by the President of Lyon, Bruno Bernard, in a statement on X.
"Since Sunday, we have been looking for an individual who attacked a user of our metro with a knife following a stampede," he said. "This heinous attackquickly mob ilised our services, we immediately transmitted our video surveillance images to the police. The individual has just been arrested.". He went on to thank national police for their "rapid" efforts to investigae the attack and said his and the community's "thoughts also go out to those who were victims of this act". According to local media, the attacker was already known to the police.
