Getting engaged at another couple's wedding is a big faux pas for most - but one woman's engagement was facilitated by the bride herself at her own wedding. Brittany Brink, 31, was a bridesmaid at her boyfriend's sister's wedding last year, when the controversial proposal took place. Brittany, from New Jersey, had gone to the bathroom, when the bride decided to do the bouquet toss - and was shocked when the other bridesmaids were desperately ushering her back to the dance floor.
'I'm like, really? I was almost annoyed. I'm already taken. I don't need to come out for the bouquet toss,' Brittany recalled to Today. When she made her way back out to the reception, the bride was standing with her back to the guests, holding the bouquet. However, rather than tossing over her head, she turned around and handed it to Brittany directly. Her boyfriend of eight years, Rich Ciallella, then stepped forward with their two-year-old son and an engagement ring - much to the delight of the other guests.
Brittany said she immediately started 'hysterically crying' before questioning Rich's decision to propose at his sister's wedding. Brittany Brink, 31, was a bridesmaid at her boyfriend's sister's wedding last year, when the controversial proposal took place. 'I go, "Why would you do this on your sister's wedding day? Why would you do this?"' she questioned. The proposal had been a long time coming, with Brittany and Rich going ring shopping earlier last year - but she never expected he would propose at his sister's wedding.
However, it was revealed after the proposal was actually her future sister-in-law's idea. She explained that her now-fiancé, Rich, and his sister, Victoria, had been 'brainstorming ideas for months,' before seeing a TikTok of someone proposing at a wedding and being immediately inspired. Loving the idea, Victoria convinced her brother to propose at her wedding - which was a huge shock to Brittany. She immediately told the bride it wasn't her idea - only for her to assure Brittany she was more than okay with it.
Brittany explained it was extra special, because she had lost her parent's close to each other in 2022, and Victoria wanted her to have family around. 'She starts crying, and she's like, "I really wanted you to have this moment. I really wanted your aunt to be here for this proposal, because I know that you can't have your parents here,"' she explained. Her boyfriend of eight years, Rich Ciallella, then stepped forward with their two-year-old son and an engagement ring - much to the delight of the other guests.

Having her son, Carter, there was also an important part of the proposal, with Brittany crediting him for helping her cope with her parents' deaths. 'He is my strength every single day. And he like, really, he pushed me to focus on, you know, being the best mom, being here for him, and just giving him all I can give,' she gushed.
