A SAVVY mum has impressed interior-lovers online with the bargain DIY hacks she used to totally transform her kitchen. Evie Brooks documented the incredible low-cost changes that took her kitchen from 'disgusting' to 'delicious' - although she admits she made 'one big mistake'.
The first image shows the kitchen pre-makeover, a nice open space which Evie says is 'not too bad'. However she mentions the lack of white goods and appliances - with only a fridge she'd managed to nab from Facebook Marketplace. Thanks to generosity from friends and family, she quickly managed to get this sorted - receiving a washing machine from her Nan and a coffee machine from her friends.
And after struggling with the bargain Marketplace fridge, another relative even sent her with a swish new replacement. Next, Evie tackled the dated magnolia walls by painting them in a chic neutral colour, complimented by gorgeous floating shelves. However there was one flaw in her plan - she'd also taken to her cupboards and cabinets with paint, which she later found out is a no-no for council homes.
"Apparently you're not supposed to paint council house kitchen cabinets," she wrote, "no, I didn't know this till after I started, but I'd gone too far to stop so [I'm] just going to have to cross that bridge when we come to it.". Although Evie had broken some rules in the process of painting her cabinets, they fitted into the kitchen space beautifully and modernised the units without having to fork out for a full refit.
