A $125,000,000 (£103,161,000) mansion that featured in Succession has been burnt down in the Los Angeles wildfires. The fires have been raging across the Californian city since January 7, with an estimated 10,000 buildings destroyed and 16 people confirmed to have died.
Many notable homes, landmarks and tourist attractions have been destroyed, including a mansion that was used in the HBO drama Succession, which ran from 2018 until 2023. The property, which was known as the San Onofre estate, was purchased for USD $83 million in 2021 by Luminar Technologies chief executive Austin Russell, was featured in the fourth and final season of the show.
It was used as a luxury stay for the Roy siblings, played by Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook, as they plan their next move together following the season 3 finale that saw them go up against their father Logan Roy (Brian Cox) after he revealed plans to sell Waystar Royco to tech billionaire Lukas Mattson (Alexander Skarsgård).
Scenes from the show utilised the one-acre property’s winding driveway, infinity pool and views across the city. Located in the San Onofre estate in the Santa Monica Mountains, it was believed to have been the most expensive home in the Pacific Palisades.
However, it was razed in the Palisades Fire that has decimated the affluent beachside neighbourhood. Photos of the previous 18-bedroom, 6-bathroom home now show exposed metal debris and ash debris strewn across the ground. Although the fire pit in the garden remains, it’s now covered in soot while the water in the outdoor pool has turned black.
