One of the most amusing aspects about the not-otherwise amusing month of January is predicting the trends we will succumb to in the coming year. As one cruises into middle-age and beyond, we may embrace vogues less enthusiastically – or less hysterically, at least.

And, yet, some acknowledgement of passing time is key to not looking old hat. The style shifts I have cherry picked here will give you better skin, more current hair, on-trend talons and modernised make-up. All of which will keep midlife beauties looking not merely up to speed, but positively ahead of the game in 2025.

Bio beauty. Biome-boosting beauty will be brewing everywhere. For the skin is the same as the gut: host to millions of micro-organisms protecting against pathogens and affecting immunity. Get your facial flora right and you will be relieved of midlife complexion crises. Try Cultured Biomecare.

Beauty expert Hannah Betts predicts that biome-boosting beauty will be brewing everywhere this year (stock image). Its Biome One Cleansing Balm (£32, culturedbiomecare.com) is a revelation. While its Biome One Rich Cream (£55) is targeted at the dehydration and photo-damage over-50s are plagued with.

Tactile Textures. Influenced by Korean beauty, skincare and make-up will manifest in an array of jellies, milks and broths during 2025. There will be a focus on tactility – products that feel glorious to the touch, be they for face or body. One of the cleverest textures I’ve come across is Dolce & Gabbana’s new Everlast Foundation (£49, harrods.com).
