Cooking hacks can be unreliable, and some a complete waste of time. But the Queen of Clean has revealed a simple yet effective way to loosen stubborn grease marks from your cooking items such as pans and baking trays. Lynsey Crombie, an author and TV personality, said soda crystals are the way to go. In a video on her Instagram page, she can be seen pouring the crystals onto a dirty glass baking tray in her kitchen sink. She said: "One of my other favourite cleaning tips for tackling greasy pots and pans is soda crystals. Sprinkle the soda crystals over the greasy mess add water. Let them soak for 15 minutes—no scrubbing needed.".
She said the crystals break down the grease and grime, which means it is safe to pour the watery contents down the sink. The "minimal effort" hack happens because soda crystals are "highly alkaline", Lynsey added, which makes them effective at breaking down organic compounds such as grease and oils. She said this will come in handy over the Christmas period.
Lynsey's followers questioned how else soda crystals can be used, with one user asking about air fryer baskets. Lynsey confirmed using soda crystals to banish grease and grime in the trays does work. Many were impressed with the end result of her baking tray, which was gleaming after a quick rinse.
One said: "Wow, I'm going to remember this one, especially over Christmas. Thank you Lynsey." Another said: "Wow, great results.". Soda crystals are not just effective on hard surfaces, some experts also say they are great at removing stains on clothing too. Not only can they work on items in the washing machine, but they can also help prevent limescale building up internally. It can remove stubborn stains such as those caused by coffee or oils.
