A Richard Curtis film that fans say 'you'll need a box of tissues' while watching is airing on TV today. First landing in cinemas in 2013, About Time will be available to watch for free on Channel 5 at 2:20 PM. Directed by the Oscar-nominated screenwriter and filmmaker known for Love Actually, Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral, the story blends fantasy and romance into a thrilling two-hour ride.

It follows Tim, played by Domhnall Gleeson, who learns he has inherited the ability to time travel and alter key moments in his life. Although the discovery comes as a shock, the 21-year-old quickly embraces his gift and uses it to improve his love life. However, as Tim grows older, he realises that time travel cannot solve life's unpredictable challenges.

Gleeson is joined by Rachel McAdams, who plays his on-screen love interest, Mary. The cast also features stage and screen stars Bill Nighy and Lindsay Duncan as Tim's parents, James and Mary. Following its debut, the romance drama grossed an impressive $87 million worldwide but received mixed reviews, with audiences and critics highlighting its flawed time-bending plot line.

Mark Kermode awarded the fantasy film three stars for The Guardian, but criticised that Curtis "sets up his rules of temporal engagement, only to break them willy-nilly whenever the prospect of an extra hug rears its head.". Reddit users also noticed the director's inconsistent time-jumping rules, with one viewer writing an entire thread detailing the inconsistencies. They stated: "I'm not sure I'll ever watch a movie with that many blatant plot holes.".
