Jamie Carragher fired a warning to Arsenal and Chelsea after Liverpool thumped Tottenham 6-3 to go four points clear at the top of the Premier League. Liverpool’s sensational forward play and Tottenham’s defensive vulnerability resulted in a chaotic nine-goal affair in north London on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs fans had hope when James Maddison got one back after Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister had put the visitors 2-0 up but Liverpool scored again on the stroke of half-time through Dominik Szoboszlai. Mohamed Salah scored twice in seven second-half minutes to put Liverpool 5-1 up before Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke got two goals back for the hosts.
But any hopes of a stunning comeback were ended when Diaz scored his second and Liverpool’s sixth. The remarkable win leaves Liverpool four points clear at the top of the table on Christmas Day, with Chelsea and Arsenal currently leading the chasing pack.
‘That feels like a really big win,’ Carragher said on Sky Sports after the 6-3 win. ‘I felt this was a big win coming here today. ‘I do think there will be a slight frustration in the dressing room that it didn’t finish 6-1 but that might even be a good thing because it shows them they can’t let that happen again.
‘I thought Chelsea were outstanding and if you’re Arsenal or Chelsea and you’re watching that, you’re thinking “this lot will take some stopping”. It could have been worse for Tottenham really.’. Carragher added: ‘That press conference on Friday from Arne Slot was hilarious. People thought he was defending Ange – I don’t believe that for one minute.
