Jamie Carragher named three Liverpool stars in his Premier League team of the season so far - but also included those from some of the surprise packages. The Reds have dominated the top flight thus far, opening up a considerable lead at the summit. Liverpool were tipped to find life difficult post-Jurgen Klopp but Arne Slot has come in and reinvigorated some of their players. Ryan Gravenberch is among the success stories this term and features in Carragher's midfield.
Mohamed Salah, enjoying a year where records continue to be broken, and Virgil van Dijk are the other Liverpool stars to feature in the XI. Chelsea and Arsenal have been their closest challengers thus far with Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer also included by Carragher.
The Gunners, renowned for their defensive qualities, also have one man in the XI in the form of David Raya. The goalkeeper endured a mixed first year in north London but has since recovered with Carragher citing some of his highlight moments. He said: "A great defensive record at Arsenal, as others keepers do also, but I remember 2/3 great saves that were out of this world! Away in Atalanta in the CL, one away at Villa from Watkins. I’m sure there was one other??!!!".
Nottingham Forest feature in the top four after a stellar season, built on a solid defensive showing, and Carragher has selected two of their defenders. At centre-half he picked Nikola Milenković with Ola Aina at full-back. Antonee Robinson completed the back-line. Carragher had mocked Gary Neville's decision to include Josko Gvardiol and claimed the Fulham man had been the most creative left-back going with his performance at Anfield a standout moment. "Gave the best left back performance I’ve seen this season at Anfield for Fulham. Got 7 assists also," said the Sky Sports pundit.
