Danny Murphy has disagreed with Jamie Carragher’s verdict on Liverpool’s ideal replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Reds are flying high in the Premier League and Champions League after a strong start under new boss Arne Slot, despite making just one summer signing. Salah has been instrumental in Liverpool's early success, scoring a remarkable 23 goals and registering 17 assists in 32 appearances.
The Reds icon is arguably in the best form of his career, which is even more impressive given that it is set against ongoing talks over a new contract. The 32-year-old has entered the final few months of his Liverpool deal, meaning he can already agree to a pre-contract move abroad, but Salah has stated his desire to remain at Anfield.
Despite hoping Salah will stay beyond his current deal, Liverpool legend Carragher has begun preparing for the worst and named Brentford star Bryan Mbuemo as a possible solution. Mbuemo, 25, has been a standout player for the Bees, scoring 14 league goals, but Carragher’s former team-mate Murphy believes the club should target a more high-profile name.
“I like him. He’s got great skill. He knows where the goal is,” Murphy told OLBG. “What we’re talking about here is being the best, and if Liverpool want to remain at the top and be the best in Europe and the best in the Premier League, I think you need to be setting your sights higher.
“I really like him, he’s a super talent, but if I’m in the Liverpool recruitment team, I’m looking for better. I want more. Why not? You’re one of the biggest clubs in the world. You’ve hardly spent any money recently, why not go and get someone elite if you can?.
