Jeremy Clarkson is determined to be the healthiest version of himself for a sweet reason. The Clarkson’s Farm star, who had a heart operation in 2024, shared that his grandchildren have brought him ‘much happiness’ over recent years and he wants to enjoy more time with them. He is grandad to Arlo Rose, two and one-month old Xanthe Fiadh from eldest daughter Emily Clarkson, who is a Metro columnist and social media star.

‘I’m not going to dwell on the joys of being a grandparent because what can be said about it has already been said. But I have decided that it is so wonderful that I want it to go on for as long as is humanly possible. Which means I must do everything in my power to not die,’ he wrote in his Sunday Times column. Jeremy, 64, goes on to explain that he’s previously tried to get fit, but finds it often ends in failure as he has a dislike for discomfort, loathes bicycling and he finds people who go to the gym ‘weird’. He went on to provide an anecdote about the time a personal trainer asked him to use a treadmill, and no prizes for guessing that he didn’t like it.

Now, Jeremy has finally found a way to be active that doesn’t annoy him – he’s joined the trendy Reformer Pilates movement. The full-body workout utlisies a bed-like machine with a sliding carriage, springs and ropes. ‘I’m not unenjoying it. Partly this is down to my instructor who makes me laugh. But mostly it’s because it’s all done in slow motion,’ he shared. ‘You lift your arms up, one at a time, as though they’re in glue and then you repeat the process with your feet.’.

‘Two years ago, I saw old age as a wearisome tangle of tubes and knee replacement surgery. Now though, thanks to my grandchildren, I’m actively looking forward to it,’ Jeremy later summarised. ‘I may even try that new anti-fat Ozempic-type drug called “Muntjac”. I’m buying time. It hurts and it’s expensive. But it’s better than wasting your money on a new watch.’. In October, Jeremy underwent surgery to have a stent fitted which improved the flow of blood to his heart.

This procedure came after Jeremy experienced a ‘sudden deterioration’ in his health, and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. Jeremy is also kept fit with his work on Diddly Squat, which is chronicled in popular Prime Video series Clarkson’s Farm. The show that also featues farm manager Kaleb Cooper, land agent Charlie Ireland, ‘head of security Gerald Cooper’, and Jeremy’s partner Lisa Hogan, is returning for its fifth series very soon.

In the meantime, Jeremy fans can catch him on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? which continues with an celebrity special tonight. Fred Sirieix and Anton Du Beke will be taking on the notoriously difficult quiz show. What I Own: I quit London at 48 and bought my first home in Sussex for £325,000.
