Defence Secretary John Healey hailed the move, declaring that it demonstrates defence being harnessed as "an engine for growth" while reaffirming the UK’s commitment to maintaining its nuclear deterrent amidst increasing global peril.
The Ministry of Defence laid out that the contract involves delivering design, manufacturing and support services for the nuclear reactors required by the British submarine fleet.
"In line with our Plan for Change, this deal with Rolls-Royce, a historic British success story, will support high-skilled UK jobs who equip the thousands of submariners that keep us all safe.
Celebrating the agreement, he remarked: "This investment in Britain’s defence will deliver a long-term boost to British business, jobs and national security.
