With just hours left to go until Christmas arrives, this year Kate Middleton’s iconic Christmas Day appearance will mark a “huge moment” for the senior royal, as she prepares to bid farewell to a “brutal” 12 months in which she has privately battled with an undisclosed form of cancer.
All eyes will be on the Princess of Wales, 42, when she is once again expected to join the rest of the royal family on their annual Christmas walk on December 25, to St. Mary Magdalene’s church for the festive service. “It’s going to be such a huge moment because the last time we saw her, before we knew anything about her health issues, was last Christmas," Bethan Holt, fashion director at The Telegraph,told PEOPLE. "It’s almost going to be like a bookend moment on a very difficult time.”.

Princess Kate was diagnosed with cancer at the start of the year, and went public with her diagnosis only after wild conspiracy theories had been shared online, that speculated about her whereabouts when she vanished from the public eye for several months. Recuperating while undergoing chemotherapy, Kate was noticeably absent from many royal engagements for several months, but began to slowly work her way up to key events back in Summer.
Among her most memorable appearances were Trooping the Colour, and a memorable outing to Wimbledon alongside her daughter Princess Charlotte. A further piece of good news was also issued in September, when the Princess shared an emotional video from her home in Norfolk that confirmed she had completed her cancer treatment and was "looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months.”.
