Actor Lily Collins shared a surprise announcement that she's become a parent this week. Lily, 35, revealed on Friday night that she has welcomed a baby via surrogate with her husband, film director Charlie McDowell, 41. The couple, who have been together since 2019, shared the news with fans in a joint post on Instagram. They shared a photo of the newborn in the post and wrote: "Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again…".

The name Tove, according to Ancestry UK, has its origins in Scandinavia. It's said to be derived from the Old Norse word tfa or tofi, meaning beautiful, and is also associated with the Norse god Thor, representing strength and protection. The newborn shares their middle name Jane with Lily, who is the daughter of musician Phil Collins and his ex-wife Jill Tavelman. Phil isn't Tove's only famous grandparent as Charlie is the son of actors Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen. And Mary is now married to Ted Danson.

The news of Tove's arrival was met with well wishes from fans and fellow celebrities. Ashley Park - who stars alongside Lily on Netflix's Emily in Paris - wrote alongside heart emojis in the comments section: "Mom and dadddddd.". Jordana Brewster reacted: "Congratulations." Whilst Jaime Winstone responded to the post: "Wow wow wow! Mama, huge congratulations to you and hubby! Beautiful Tove. So happy for you." Sarah Hyland wrote beside heart-eyed emojis in her comment to the couple: "I'm sobbinggggg.".

One person commented: "Oh my goodness, wow! Huge congratulations to you both! And what a beautiful name. Couldn't be happier for you all." Whilst another fan said: "Omg Lily! Congratulations both of you.". The news comes just a day after Lily paid tribute to her father Phil - known for his solo career and his work in the band Genesis - for his birthday. Alongside photos of them together, she wrote in her post on Thursday: "From a west coast star to the West End stage and everywhere in between - I'm so grateful to be by your side and for the support, experiences, and love we have and will continue to share.".

Lily concluded the tribute post by writing: "The older I get, the greater I appreciate all the little, special moments spent together. Happy birthday Dad. I couldn't love you more or be more thankful to celebrate you today and every day. Truly. To the moon and back again.". Like this story?
