Liverpool complete first transfer of January window as goalkeeper deal sealed

Liverpool have completed their first move of the January transfer window, with goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga leaving the club. The 22-year-old stopper has sealed a switch back to his homeland with Fluminense following four years at Anfield, where he failed to make a first-team appearance after his arrival in a £1.8million move as a teenager.
He had loan spells at Macclesfield, Irish side St Patrick’s Athletic and Scottish club Livingston. And while he featured in a number of matchday squads for the Reds, his time at the club has been cut short, with a return to his former side. A club statement declared: "Everyone at LFC wishes Marcelo the best of luck for the future.".
Much of the focus where Liverpool deals is concerned right now - particularly where supporters are looking - is the trio of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three are out of contract in the summer. England international Alexander-Arnold is being heavily linked with a summer move to Real Madrid on a free transfer, although the Spanish giants have looked to cut a January deal, seeing an £18million offer rebuffed at the start of the window.
Questions have been asked over whether he has had his head turned following a disappointing weekend display against Manchester United, where he was at fault for United’s opener in the 2-2 draw at Anfield and was generally poor throughout, falling well below the high standards he has set himself.
However Van Dijk has no concerns. “I am fine with it. Trent has his own people around him, his family and we are there as well,” he said. “He wants to perform in the best way possible like we all do. That is the main focus. In my opinion, maybe ask him, that is the distraction… the game.”.
