Liverpool sent blunt Mohamed Salah contract warning - 'It's not sustainable'

Liverpool have been warned against renewing Mohamed Salah's contract for one major reason. Salah is out of contract at the end of the season and could depart Anfield on a free transfer in the summer, but he remains a key player under new boss Arne Slot. He has scored 21 goals and provided 17 assists in just 27 games across all competitions so far.
In fact, no other footballer across Europe has made more goal contributions for their club than Salah has for Liverpool this campaign. However, former Premier League striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Liverpool should not renew Salah's deal because of his age.
The Egyptian will turn 33 this summer and Hasselbaink claims that letting Salah leave for free at the end of the season is the "best business for Liverpool". He told BetMGM : "There are not a lot of players like Salah who will be playing as well as he is in the last year of their contract.
"He can obviously put all of the distractions to the side and perform like he has been – I think it really shows how mentally strong he is. If I'm the manager of Liverpool, I obviously want to keep all three of Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
"If I'm the owner and with a business hat on, I would let Salah go because of his age. You would have to pay him mega money and I just don't think you can give a player of his age a three-year contract. Business-wise, it's not sustainable and the best business for Liverpool is to see him go.".
Salah is not the only Liverpool star whose contract is expiring, with Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold's futures also yet to be determined. Hasselbaink believes Liverpool should keep them both, but Real Madrid's interest in the latter means he may yet depart.
