Love Island narrator Iain Stirling left Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer stunned on the latest episode of Sunday Brunch. Unbeknown to Tim, 56, and Simon, 61, Iain, 37, had another career set in his sights before he fell into TV and comedy. The Scottish star, who is the voice of hit ITV2 dating show Love Island, revealed he actually studied law at university but instead took a different career path. Iain spoke about his upcoming podcast with his famous wife Laura Whitmore which is called Murder They Wrote and is a true crime series on BBC Radio 5 Live that aims to unravel the stories of history's most atrocious criminals.
Justifying why he and Laura were a perfect fit for the new show, he said: "So Murder They Wrote, long story short, over the years me and Laura were always approached to do podcasts but we weren't sure on the vibe and then we got asked to do one about true crime.". He added: "That's like our go to in the evenings. You know as a couple when you go 'what are we going to watch on Netflix for an hour' and then don't pick anything and then go to bed, so like true crime is like our thing.".
Iain went on to reveal: "Laura's a journalist, she's got a journalism degree, and I've got a law degree believe it or not," to which there was a loud roar of surprise from both Tim and Simon as the Love Island star jested: "Don't be that surprised.". "Why don't you use it, why are you wasting your life?" chirped back Tim. The ITV star then went on to explain how he stumbled into television instead of law.
"I got the job on kids TV six months before my final exams so I did not bother studying, I passed and I got a 2:2 so just about scraped a pass," said Iain. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the discussion, the narrator opened up about being "confused" over his appearance on the Channel 4 show following a last minute alteration with the schedule. The voice-over star arrived at the Sunday Brunch studio believing he would be chatting to the two hosts about Love Island but was informed on arrival that his new tour Relevant, was actually now being extended.
Iain was then told by producers and his management team that he'd actually only be needed to address his new tour as opposed to the ITV2 dating show that is currently in full swing with Maya Jama at the helm. He candidly admitted to the hosts: "I thought I was coming on the show today to promote Love Island and then I got here and they were like 'Oh no, you've got a tour extension in march'.". "Oh have I? Happy days," joked the voiceover star as he revealed this arm of the tour would be "much shorter" than the original 80 day stretch from previous.
