Luke Humphries lifts lid on relationship with 'younger brother' Luke Littler

Luke Humphries can’t bring himself to drum up a confected feud with Luke Littler - because he regards the boy wonder more as a younger brother than his arch-rival. As the Paddy Power PDC World Championship, a fancy dress pageant which lasts longer than the Olympics, begins at Alexandra Palace tonight, Cool Hand Luke insists there will be no trash talk with Littler, the kid he beat as a 16-year-old in the final 12 months ago.
From Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier’s trilogy of heavyweight battles to Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank’s grudge matches or Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe’s Wimbledon classics, sporting rivalry has always been box office gold dust. And if the Lukes of Hazard meet in the semi-finals at Ally Pally, as their collision course was set by the seedings and draw, it will be the hottest ticket in town. But don’t expect any aggro - Humphries says they will go hammer and tongs on the oche, but they will be the best of enemies.

It’s not like he’s knocking me off my perch or I’m knocking him off his perch. When you look back at the years when Phil Taylor ruled and then Michael (Van Gerwen) came along and knocked him off his perch, maybe Phil didn’t like it and Michael was loving it.
“But Luke and I are not here to end one era and launch another - hopefully over the next 10 years, we can share it out and create our own legacies. When I leave the sport I want to be remembered as one of the best there’s ever been, and I don’t need rivalry to get there.
